UpToYouToo
Mission
Our mission, as stated in our articles, is:
‘UpToYouToo facilitates and supports initiatives of youth in East Africa to reach sustainable economic and cultural independence through enabling youth to use their competencies and capacity and through strengthening those. In the Netherlands UpToYouToo focuses on mobilizing youth and companies to contribute to fighting poverty together.’
Our work
With it's local partners, UpToYouToo runs projects in Kenya and Tanzania. We started in 2003 in Nairobi, working with Youth Initiatives Kenya (YIKE). Since the start of 2009, UpToYouToo extended its activities to Dar es Salaam, where we support Youth Initiatives Tanzania (YITA). Our third partner Penya is a new label from Nairobi, founded to expose the many talents present.
In the Netherlands we involve youth with development issues in different ways. Last year we launched the theatre project IF, about the challenge of navigating spaces of safety in an urban setting. Together with schools like Imagin Heroes, we are implementing entrepreneurial education in which students learn to deal with African youth in business matters. From time to time we organise debates and events. Through Youth SEEN, UpToYouToo involves companies and other NGO's in supporting youth entrepreneurship. We continuously support EEN, the Dutch branch of the worldwide call for an end to poverty by the GCAP coalition, and Africa Unsigned.
