Sauti Sol
Awarded best African Band (Museke Award) and being the best selling Kenyan band, Sauti Sol are rising stars.
Bien-Aime Baraza, Willis Chimano, Delvin Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno met in high school and originally started as an accapella group. In 2005, after clearing their O-levels, they decided to take up music professionally. Musically, their inspiration comes from the music of Fadhili Williams, Daudi Kabaka and other established African artists such as Salif Keita and Lokua Kanza.
Following the footsteps of previous UpToYouToo releases, “Mwanzo” is yet another fulfilling musical journey with the Nairobi Eastlands as its starting point. The band is influenced by the choices, consequences and challenges that the Kenyan youth face and the need to revamp the music industry with a different sound that cuts across all age groups. “Mwanzo” transmits all of this: beautiful vocal harmonies, elegant guitar chords, catchy choruses, blended in an African/Urban fusion that give it a unique feel.
As a performing band, Sauti Sol had their first show at the Nairobi Alliance Francaise and over the last 3 years that has been their haven. In 2006 they were finalists of the Spotlight on Kenyan Music and currently more shows are being planned as the bands fan base expands on a daily basis, proving that Sauti Sol are here to leave their mark. In 2009 they had their first European Tour, taking their music to The Netherlands, Sweden and the UK. For further info please check Sauti Sol on Myspace.
